SIMC is a Meditation Retreat Center located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Our Buddhist practices are taught and led by Venerable UJotika Bhivamsa – a Burmese Buddhist monk with a lifetime of experience in the Theravada Buddhist tradition (also known as Southern Buddhism). Since opening in 2009, under Venerable UJotika’s adept leadership, SIMC has developed into a community of committed and supportive individuals.

Our Meditation Center

Serenity Insight Meditation Center provides twice weekly guided meditation sessions, included with Buddhist dhamma instruction, and authentic pali chanting.

We also provide regular meditation retreats, and special traditional celebrations related to Buddhism.

Since the Buddha’s teachings entire aim was about the growth of wisdom or understanding, it is necessary to do both studying (Pariyatti) and practicing (Patipatti). Therefore, Venerable UJotika also offers personal meditation and/or dhamma studying instruction to individuals who would like to receive the greatest benefits from their practices and reach a fruitful conclusion (Pativeda).

Meditation Practices

We primarily practice two types of Buddhist meditation – Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana and/or Mindfulness Meditation, and Metta Meditation, also referred to as Loving-Kindness meditation. Both of these meditation forms were originally taught by the Buddha over 2500 years ago and have been preserved by the Buddhist Theravada tradition.
