UJotika Bhivamsa, Buddhist Monk and Pali Scholar, originally from Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar), was born in 1965. He became a novice monk at 11, and was fully ordained at age 20. He lived in a Buddhist monastery (Moegaung Taik, Nyaungyan Pali University), Mandalay since he was 13 years old and studied Buddhist literature under various very well-known teachers of Mandalay.
After obtaining the scholarly title of Abhivamsa (Master Degree of Religion) at the age of 25, and acquiring a Bachelor’s Degree in Language and Literature from Mandalay University, he continued to live in Mandalay as a teacher in his monastery for 10 years.
He practiced intensive meditation in Mahasi Meditation Center, Yangon, Burma in 2001 and in Chanmyay Satipatthana Meditation Center, Springfield, Illinois, U.S.A. under the guidance of the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw in 2010.
UJotika has also lived in Mahasatipatthana Meditation Center in Boston, Massachusetts, for four years before he moved to North Carolina in 2008. UJotika would like to share his knowledge in the Buddhist scriptures and his lifetime experience as a Burmese Monk and Pali Scholar with anyone who is interested to learn more about Buddhism.

UJotika Bhivamsa holds meditation and religious discussion sessions for individuals or groups who wish to learn the practice.
These sessions can be held at the Asheville Center or at any other venue of your choice.
